This Colloquium, coorganised by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the EUISS, focused on the theme of women and war and the challenges for the European Union, humanitarian organisations and other concerned actors in this space. Three topics were be discussed: the Protection of Women in Armed Conflicts, Sexual Violence in Armed Conflicts, and the Role of Women in Peacebuilding Processes. The issues surrounding women in armed conflict, as well as the specific issue of sexual violence in armed conflict, pose numerous challenges to policy makers and humanitarian actors. In order to be properly addressed, these challenges require further in-depth analyses that enable the development of more effective and systemic approaches. By bringing together policy-makers, experts, academics and representatives from humanitarian organisations who work on these aspects, the ICRC and the EUISS aimed to contribute to this debate and spur greater interest and understanding of these important issues. |
