The prosecution wanted life imprisonment for many of the accused - and crowds outside the court called for the death sentence. The Ankara 4th Criminal Court began on the 1 August 2017 the trial on events at the Akıncı Air Base, from which warplanes took off on the 15 July 2016 to bomb the Turkish Parliament and other key state offices, killing 77 people. The expectations of the Turkish and wider press and media regarding the trial varied considerably. |
