Geert Wilders, the anti-Islamic Dutch politician, ruled himself out of a government role on the 3 August 2010 as the latest attempt to form a ruling coalition in the Netherlands collapsed. Mr Wilders, whose Freedom Party (PVV) saw a surge in support and came third in the June 2010 general election, had been negotiating for a month on providing parliamentary support for a proposed rightwing minority government of the Liberal party (VVD) and Christian Democrats. Following a further period of negotiations in August and september 2010 resulted in an agreement for a right-wing government supported by the far right. Negotiators reached agreement on the 28 September 2010 on the details of a coalition agreement between the free-market liberal VVD and Christian Democrats (CDA). A second agreement on parliamentary support by the Freedom Party was also finalised. |
