WHO seeks $1.5bn to tackle possible epidemic

The European Union agreed on 13 January 2006 to provide €80 million towards tackling bird flu, supplementing contributions from Japan and the United States as leading countries preparing for the International Pledging Conference on Avian and Human Pandemic Influenza in Beijing on 17-18 January 2006.
