Date: 02/07/1998 EU MEMBER states are due to take another small step next week towards implementing last year's United Nations agreement to phase out the manufacture and use of anti-personnel land-mines. The issue will come under the spotlight once again when European army chiefs meet in Vienna to discuss the military implications of the ban. The meeting, which will bring together military leaders from the EU's defence arm, the Western European Union (WEU), will focus on how European armies can best adapt to the ban and contribute to the rapid implementation of the UN agreement. |
