At Brussels on the 27 October 2010 representatives from across Europe came together to discuss the benefits and the challenges currently facing minority languages.

The conference was organised by the Network to Promote Linguistic Diversity (NPLD). The event marked three years of the existence of the NPLD and provided an opportunity for members to share their experiences.

During the past three years, NPLD membership had increased from 12 member states and regions to 28, and members now include Ireland, Estonia, the Basque Country and Catalonia among others. The NPLD is funded by its members and by the European Commission. Chief Executive of the Welsh Language Board, Meirion Prys Jones, chairs the Network and it is run from the Welsh Language Board's office in Cardiff.
