Three Welsh projects have been named as finalists for the European Commission's annual 'RegioStars' awards, which highlight the most innovative projects supported by European Regional Policy. The three Welsh projects join a list of 31 finalists as the competition enters its final stages, before the winners are finally unveiled at a ceremony in Brussels on 23 June 2011.

Subsequently, a project from Wales was recognised at the 2011 RegioStars Awards. The Growth in Environmental Marine Science project saw off other contenders to win in the category 'Networking and Cluster Initiatives Supporting Regional Growth and SMEs’ Access to Global Markets'. Wales became the first region to have won this European award three times having previously won on 2008 and 2009.
