The European Commission’s competition department works to enhance competition in Europe’s banking, insurance and securities markets. The Commission has traditionally had an important role in approving mergers which have a Community dimension, in addition to applying state aid rules and Articles 81 and 82 in financial services cases. This role will continue, but the role of EU competition policy in financial services is no longer limited to enforcement in individual cases. |
