Trade policy, business activity and globalisation have become topics of increasing interest for civil society. The general public quite rightly wants to know the effect of trade liberalisation on sustainable development, agriculture and food quality, access to medicines, and so on. That is why the European Commission puts a high priority on consultation with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other representatives of civil society in the European Union. Since 1998, it has organised regular meetings with civil society organisations. The EU Trade Commissioner regularly attends such events in person. |
