The Committee's original report, published in June 2006, focused on the impact of The EU Physical Agents (Electromagnetic Fields) Directive, due to be made law in the EU member states by 2008, and the impact of this Directive on the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment for diagnosis, treatment and research use. The Directive sets out the exposure limits designed to provide a minimum standard of protection from occupational exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF). This Government response addresses the Committee's recommendations, particularly those relevant to the Health and Safety Commission and Executive and the need for risk and impact assessments of the Directive as well as improvements in the consultation process. |
