Summary: Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) between the European Union and Honduras on forest law enforcement, governance and trade in timber products to the European Union (EU). Further information: The objective of this Agreement, in accordance with the common commitment of the Parties to sustainably manage all types of forests, is to provide a legal framework to ensure that all imports into the EU of the timber products from Honduras covered by this Agreement have been legally produced and, in so doing, to promote the trade in said timber products. This Agreement also provides a basis for dialogue and cooperation between the Parties aimed at facilitating and promoting its full implementation and at strengthening the enforcement of forest law and governance. Honduras became the first Latin American country (and the eighth overall) to sign a voluntary partnership agreement with the EU under the Action Plan on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT). Negotiations for this Agreement were launched in 2013. It was signed by both sides on 23 February 2021. |
