The Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT) is a collaborative partnership of law enforcement agencies, who have come together across the digital divide to combat online child sexual abuse worldwide. This environmental scan was commissioned by the VGT Board of Managers and was prepared by the European Cybercrime Centre (EC3), Europol. It is a sanitised version of an assessment intended for law enforcement. The first part comprises a review of the last four years’ published research literature on online child sexual exploitation. The second section focuses on law enforcement trends. The final section on future considerations draws both on the opinions of interviewees and on comprehensive scanning of open source material on legislative, technical, social and organisational developments anticipated in the next four years. |
