Following the announcement by the Irish Government, in March 2012, that the referendum on the Treaty would take place on 31 May 2012, the newly established Sub-Committee on the Referendum on the Intergovernmental Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union hosted a series of eight meetings, which took place over three days, from 3 to 5 April 2012. The debates will inform a Sub-Committee report to be published in advance of referendum day. The first meeting, which took place in the morning of 3 April 2012, heard views on the treaty from the ambassadors of the Czech Republic, Greece, Poland and Denmark. The afternoon session heard the views of Irish MEPs Nessa Childers, Marian Harkin, Paul Murphy and Phil Prendergast, along with Bill Cash MP, Chairman of the European Scrutiny Committee of the House of Commons. |
