Vestager opens soccer ‘slavery’ probe

Politico reported in August 2015 on an investigation which had been opened by the European Commission to alledged abuse of dominant position by football's FIFA.

The EC had reportedly started investigating rules implemented by that football's association prohibiting investors from taking shares in that sport's players. The probe was triggered by representatives of the Portuguese and Spanish football leagues as they worried FIFA ban would handicap poorer European clubs by removing an important source of revenue.
