This publication presents the different stages in venture capital investments - early stage and expansion and replacement stage - and their situation in different parts of the world. After a boom in 2000, venture capital investments collapsed both in the United States and in Europe, waiting until 2005 to experience a revival. The United Kingdom is the absolute leader in using this type of investment as a source of finance in Europe, where entrepreneurs still prefer more traditional forms of financing. Some examples of national venture capital associations from different parts of the world are also presented. Statistics are included for Iceland, Norway and Switzerland.
