Talks between the US and Iran, with representatives from France, Germany and the United Kingdom, to secure a historic deal with Iran to curtail its nuclear programme could 'slip' past a 30 June 2015 deadline, an US official admitted on the 25 June 2015 ahead of key weekend negotiations in Vienna. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier urged a resolution to the nuclear negotiations with Iran in a newspaper interview on the 28 June 2015. In remarks of HR/VP Federica Mogherini following the meetings on Iran nuclear issue in Vienna on the 28 June 2015 she said the party would be aiming to keep to the 30 June 2015 deadline, but would act with a certain degree of flexibility. On the 30 June 2015 the Council of the European Union issued a statement saying 'To allow more time for the ongoing negotiations to reach a long term solution to the Iranian nuclear issue, the Council has prolonged until 7 July 2015 the suspension of EU restrictive measures agreed in the Joint Plan of Action with Iran dated 24 November 2013'. On 5 July 2015, Ms Mogherini stated that a nuclear deal with Iran was 'very close', ahead of another round of negotiations. |
