US President Clinton has named his new representative to the Union

A. Vernon Weaver, a life insurance executive from Clinton's home town of Little Rock, Arkansas, will replace Stuart Eizenstat who left Brussels in early April. The Miami-born naval officer was chief executive officer of Union Life Insurance of Little Rock before serving as the head of the US Small Business Administration under President Carter. He was an advisor to the British delegation of the European Economic Community in 1984, and has since served on the board of Stephens Inc, an investment banking firm in Little Rock. His name has been sent to the US Senate for confirmation.
