Update of results on the monitoring of furan levels in food

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), on 2 August 2010, issued a scientific report which updates earlier results of monitoring on the levels of furan found in food. Furan is an organic compound formed during heat-treatment which has been shown to be carcinogenic in animal laboratory studies.
