Summary: The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) - which investigated the MH17 flight crash in July 2014, gave on 24 May 2018 an update of the state of affairs in the related criminal investigation. During the meeting, various findings of the investigation were presented. Further information: Investigators concluded that a Russian-owned missile was responsible for the crase that killed 298 passengers. Their findings showed the missile that hit the flight came from a Russian anti-aircraft missile brigade and was fired from an area of eastern Ukraine that was controlled by pro-Russian separatists. On the next day, the Dutch and Australian governments formally held Russia responsible for its part in the downing of flight MH17. This decision was separate to the criminal investigation. |
