Further information: Ukrainian lawmaker Nadiya Savchenko, an ex-military helicopter navigator who became a national hero after being held in a Russian jail, was arrested on charges of planning a military-style coup. According to the General Prosecutor Yuriy Lutsenko, Savchenko was working with the Russian-backed separatists to obtain arms for attacking the Parliament, including mortar rounds, sniper rifles and grenades. Savchenko claimed it was a plot by undercover agents working for the Ukrainian government to discredit her. She said she knowingly went along with the agents in order to reveal the scheme to the public. On 22 March 2018 war hero and parliamentarian Nadiya Savchenko was detained by Ukraine's judicial forces over an alleged plot to overthrow the government of Ukraine and blow up parliament. |
