Yulia Tymoshenko, Ukraine’s Prime Minister, withdrew on the 20 February 2010 her appeal of a hotly contested presidential contest that was narrowly lost to Viktor Yanukovich earlier in the month.

The surprise development opens the door for Mr Yanukovich to be inaugurated as president on the 25 February 2010, completing his astonishing comeback since a humiliating defeat in the 2004 Orange Revolution.
