The Guardian and other sources reported on the 27 January 2014 that Ukraine's Justice Minister Olenea Lukash warned anti-government protesters occupying her ministry she would call for a state of emergency if they did not leave. On that same day, protesters ended the occupation of the ministry, but they still surrounded several government buildings. The fresh unrest came after opposition leader Arseniy Yatsenyuk rejected President Viktor Yanukovych's offer to appoint him prime minister. He said key demands must be met, including new elections. The BBC and other news sources reported on the 26 January 2014 that the protests in the Ukraine were extending outside Kyiv. |
