UK scientists announce ‘stay in EU’ campaign

A campaign backed by more than 6,000 British scientists to stay in the European Union was launched on 9 October 2015 ahead of a British referendum due on the issue by 2017.

The group 'Scientists for the EU' was initially created informally on Facebook, in the wake of the British general election in May 2015. An in/out referendum was one of the electoral promises of the Conservative party, which eventually won the election. The board contains scientists in all three major UK political parties.
