Britain is willing to consider a joint sovereignty arrangement with Spain for Gibraltar. The disclosure came before talks on 20 November 2001 between the UK Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, and his Spanish counterpart, José Piqué, aimed at agreeing a new constitutional settlement for Gibraltar. To date Britain has resisted ceding any sovereignty, but UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is determined to resolve the dispute before the end of 2002.
