EurActiv writes about the new report published by the UK’s House of Lord on 6 April 2011. The document, entitled ‘Grassroots Sport and the European Union', specify that sport should be granted specific funding from the EU budget as it helps to deliver major policy objectives in areas like health, education and employment.

The report concluded that although ‘there is value’ in dedicated EU funding for sport, ‘there is greater potential value in mainstreaming it into other EU funding streams, including the structural funds and through ensuring redistribution from professional sport’.
