Britain and France are to move towards closer defence co-operation by creating a string of highly trained, Anglo-French rapid-deployment units for jungle, desert, amphibious and mountain operations. The plan, to be unveiled in mid-February 2004, is part of a strategy by the two countries to 'beef up' Europe's defence.
