Summary:The Council of the European Union published on 11 December 2023 the 25th annual report pursuant to Article 8(2) of the Common Position 2008/944/CFSP defining common rules governing the control of exports of military technology and equipment. Further information:The Council Common Position 2008/944/CFSP sets out the European Union's (EU) rules aimed at controlling the export of items of military technology and equipment. Article 8(2) of this text establishes that an annual report must be published in the Official Journal based on contributions from all Member States. The 25th report covers data from 2022 on granted and denied licences from EU Member States, and exports of conventional arms from EU Member States. It also covers activities related to the implementation of the Common Position, and contains non-exhaustive information on intra-EU transfers of defence-related products that are governed by Directive 2009/43/EC. It was compiled by the European External Action Service (EEAS). A number of third countries have officially aligned themselves with the criteria and principles of the Common Position. In addition to this report, data on EU Member States’ arms exports can also be also consulted online. The report was adopted by the Council of the European Union on 11 December 2023 and published in the Official Journal on 22 February 2024. |
