At least 12 people were killed, including a local police chief, when two bombs exploded in a town in Dagestan in Russia’s north Caucasus early on the 31 March 2010.

The blasts, coming two days after attacks in the Moscow underground claimed the lives of 39 people, have heightened fears of an escalation in terrorism.
