Tony Blair met his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan for talks in Number 10, Downing Street, 3 October 2006. The two leaders discussed international issues, in particular Turkey's progress with accession to the European Union - the negotiations began one year ago. The PM's spokesperson said: 'We remain firm supporters of enlargement and of Turkish accession. Turkish membership is firmly in the EU's interests - to help with the fight against terrorism, people-trafficking, organised crime and drugs.'
