The outcome of the Crédit Lyonnais case - France's biggest bank failure - has important consequences for Europe. A Paris court was due to pronounce judgment on 18 June 2003 on the involvement of Jean-Claude Trichet in the collapse of the bank in the early 1990s. If he is cleared, Mr Trichet is expected to succeed Wim Duisenberg as head of the European Central Bank. |
