Transparency International opened a Brussels Office to monitor transparency issues in the EU in January 2008. In particular, the office aims at promoting:

+ the establishment of a permanent anti-corruption monitoring system (in EU accession candidate countries (1st year), later in EU Member States and in EU neighbourhood countries)

+ the transparent management of internal EU spending (i.e. structural Funds, agricultural Funds and research spending)

+ Transparency in external EU spending

+ Transparent lobbying rules at EU level

+ Transparent procurement rules (for the management of EU funds and for funding of the internal market)

+ the development of an EU-wide debarment system (applied to EU funds and later beyond)

+ Fight against corruption through EU’s judicial/police cooperation

+ the European Prosecutor

+ Whistleblowing

+ Corruption-free export credit insurance

+ the implementation of international Anti-Corruption Conventions

+ Access to public information
