At the end of October 2001, six weeks after the terrorist attacks in the United States, transatlantic air traffic is still running at about a third below the levels of a year ago. Intra-European traffic was 9.6% down on the same period a year ago. The Association of European Airlines (AEA) has forecast that the European industry will lose €3.7bn of revenues in the period to the end of December 2001, and will suffer a cut in profits of €2.5bn.
