After years of painful restructuring and modernisation, Europe's clothing industry has learnt to constantly improve its competitive edge. Nowadays, Europe is the second largest exporter of clothing in the world after China. But new challenges are a day-to-day fact of life for the industry. Globalisation, trade liberalisation and new technological developments all add to the pressure. More innovation and investment in the knowledge-based economy is needed to increase the competitiveness of the sector.
