Summary: Communication published by the European Commission on 16 June 2020, which reports on progress in the management of fishing stocks across the European Union (EU) in the framework of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and sets out orientations for the fishing opportunities in 2021. Further information: This Communication gives an overview of the progress made in achieving sustainable fishing by EU fleets and reviews the socio-economic performance of the EU fleet, the balance between fishing capacity and fishing opportunities, and the implementation of the landing obligation. It also includes the main orientations that are to shape forthcoming proposals on fishing opportunities for 2021. The Document should be read in conjunction with information provided in the accompanying staff working document. The European Commission launched a public consultation for feedback from Member States, stakeholders and the public on the policy orientations by 31 August 2020. The Council of the European Union held a discussion on this Communication during a meeting on 29 June 2020, based on a background note prepared by the Council Presidency. |
