Tobacco lobby threatens EU over plain packaging

The European Commission is preparing an impact assessment of policy options in advance of the its review of the 2001 Tobacco Products Directive. The review was scheduled for early 2012.

A tobacco industry representative warned the European Commission that it would have to face legal action if it tried to reproduce Australia's plain-packaging proposals for cigarettes in Europe.
