The European Court of Justice on Tuesday ruled against Germany in its challenge to the EU law banning tobacco advertising and sponsorship. Germany had argued that the Commission did not have the authority to impose a ban, disputing the legal basis of the law.

The European Commission has delayed adopting a proposal aimed at cleaning up member states’ patchwork of different rules for copyright levies on blank recording media and digital music file players such as Apple’s iPod.
