The EU should continue to support nuclear power as a low-carbon bridge technology. Existing technologies rather than new and unproven technologies such as fusion should generally be used. But thorium liquid fuel reactors – which cannot melt down – should be an exception. China and the USA are taking thorium seriously. Europe is not, so risks losing out economically.
