Abstract:

The yearbook provides an easily accessible annual survey offering detailed and indispensable information on current and future European environmental law. The survey in this volume covers the developments during the years 2000 and 2001.

Environmental law within the scope of the European Community (EC) has expanded in both substantive and geographical terms. The enlargement scheduled for 2004 presents an opportunity for a return to basics and the fundamental environmental principles such as prevention, precaution and integration. This is a recurrent theme in the articles presented by leading European and American academics. These articles cover a wide range of topics such as Risk Regulation in Europe and the United Sates, Greenhouse Gas Emission Allowance Trading in the EU, Beyond Greenpeace, EC Water Law and Nature Protection Legislation in both the EU and the US. In addition there are summaries of preparatory Commission documents, Green Papers, and other discussion papers, as well as selected book reviews.

The work will interest students, academics, practitioners and policy makers engaged in the fields of Environmental Law and Public Administration.
