The 10 questions and answers in this document are based on the contribution of the Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) to the public consultation of the European Commission on ‘The impact of the use of body scanners in the field of aviation security on human rights, privacy, personal dignity, health and data protection’ in 2008-2009. This paper reproduces in a slightly shorter version the FRA’s replies to the consultation questionnaire distributed by the Commission in 2008. They offer an overview rather than a full assessment of the use of body scanners in relation to fundamental rights, personal data, data protection and potential health risks. |
