The Committee scrutinised the draft Directive, which restates and amplifies the provisions of EU law that set out the minimum measures Member States should adopt for freezing and confiscating the proceeds of crime. The Committee acknowledged that the draft Directive was far from perfect. In particular, it did not deal with the mutual recognition and enforcement of orders made by other Member States, and there were also legal difficulties which were referred to in the report. Nevertheless, the Committee recommended that the UK Government should opt-in to this draft Directive. The Government had to exercise the opt-in before 15 June 2012. |
