The UK’s referendum will not only have an impact on Britain, but also on the rest of the European Union. As part of the LSE EuroppBlog series covering views on the referendum across Europe, Salvador Llaudes assesses the perspective of the Spanish government and Spanish citizens on a potential Brexit. On the 1 June 2016 Spain’s (acting) Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said 'It would be very negative for British citizens' if Britain were to leave the EU, because they would no longer be able to move freely around Europe. Mr Rajoy said: 'I have no doubt whatsoever, as I have repeatedly stated, that it would be very negative if the United Kingdom left the European Union. Negative for everybody, for the United Kingdom, for Spain, and for the European Union'. |
