Summary: This article will first of all briefly examine the legal personality of the European Communities in the light of general developments in public international law relating to the legal status of international organizations. Subsequently, the following section will focus on the international legal personality of the EU (1990s and early twenty-first century) and will analyse differences and similarities with general developments in public international law relating to the international legal personality of international organizations. Finally, the last section will discuss whether an issue that is unresolved in public international law, the question of the indivisibility of international legal personality of international organizations, is also unresolved within the EU.
