Summary:

As with the previous report, this final report on data collection will concentrate on a discussion of the following points:

  • the effort undertaken in each country involved in the study;
  • specification of variables in terms of the empirical operationalization of the modelling data requirements;
  • specification of the units of analysis; and
  • the time period over which the data have been collected.

Given the overall objectives of the project, our most immediate concern was with the in-putting and definition of data for the four "cohesion" countries (Greece, Ireland, Portugal and Spain).
That task has been completed. At the beginning, the collection of data for the three "spill- over" countries (France, Italy and the UK) received a slightly lower priority. However, during the early
months of 1996 we completed the data collection for the three larger countries.
