The Less Favoured Areas scheme is intended to channel aid to farms in areas afflicted by natural handicaps, and forms part of the rural development component of the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). In this report, the Commitee considers the review of the LFA scheme that is currently underway (Spring 2009), prompted by a damning Court of Auditors' report on the implementation and oversight of the scheme published in 2003.
