Further information: This Strategy aims to boost smart, clean and secure links in digital, energy and transport and strengthen health, education and research systems across the world. It comprises the mobilisation of up to €300 billion in investments between 2021 and 2027 to underpin a lasting global recovery, taking into account interests from the European Union (EU) and its partners. Global Gateway is about increasing investments promoting democratic values and high standards, good governance and transparency, equal partnerships, green and clean, secure infrastructures and that catalyse private sector investment. It draws on the financial instruments adopted under the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027. The projects are meant to be developed and delivered through Team European Initiatives. The Strategy was first announced by the President of the European Commission during the annual State of the European Union (SOTEU) address, and formally launched on 1 December 2021. A Global Gateway Investment Package was announced in February 2022, in the run-up to a summit between the EU and the African Union (AU). |
