Book abstract:

This book aims to unravel one of the most scientific legal systems in the world, made more so by the formal terminology used in the German language and the historical differences in the development of English and German law. The book explains the structure and terminology of some of the main areas of German public and private law. It is intended as an introduction and summary rather than a more detailed account. This third edition includes two new chapters, 'Business Law and International Legal Co-operation' and several new sections. In addition a description of the federal system in Germany and an outline of the norms contained in the main German codes in numerical order are also provided.

The book includes chapters with explanations and outlines of the following areas of German law: The Federal State; The Supreme and other Federal Authorities; The Länder; The Constitution; The Basic Rights; Public and Private law; Civil Procedure; Business Law (Wirtschaftsrecht); Private International Law; International legal Co-operation; The Legal Profession and Court System.

Also included are a German/Latin/English legal vocabulary, a paragraph register and table of cases, and a table of articles from the legal magazine ZAP.

The book would be suited to students seeking an introduction to the German legal system. Howard D. Fisher is qualified as a British solicitor and also as a German lawyer.
