This study, commissioned by the European Parliament’s Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs at the request of the LIBE Committee, examined the available mechanisms for personal data transfers between the EU and the UK after Brexit.

The study showed that an adequacy finding for the UK would be beneficial, but insufficient. Notably, and to the extent that there was a consensus on these points, there was a need for a bespoke instrument that established a standstill period, and which allowd the UK to participate in

+ the development of EU data protection policy
+ internal market data transfers
+ security and law enforcement initiatives.
