The UK will hold a general election on 7 May 2015, with a number of smaller parties currently polling significant levels of support. Chris Terry writes on the effect that this fragmentation of the country’s party system will have in light of the UK’s ‘first past the post’ electoral system. He argues that with more parties competing for seats, the percentage of support required to be elected within a given constituency could be dangerously low from a democratic perspective. |
