The European Union invests €170 million to tackle instability and irregular migration in the Horn of Africa

On 15 December 2016, the European Commission announced the willingness of the European Union to deal with the root causes of instability, irregular migration and forced displacement in the Horn of Africa. To do so the European Commission adopted a new set of programmes comprising 11 measures worth €170 million which was decided by the third Operational Committee meeting of the Horn of Africa region of the EU Trust Fund for Africa.

The projects would primarily focus on: regional actions covering multiple countries in the Horn of Africa, actions in individual countries and a monitoring initiative.
