The European Union heads for ‘Big Bang’ enlargement

Article discusses the 2001 Annual Progress Reports of candidate countries, issued on 13 November 2001. As many as ten countries could join the European Union by 2004. Such an enlargement would be the biggest single expansion since the EU was established.
